St. George, UT (September 15, 2022) – A motorcyclist was transported to St. George Regional Hospital on Wednesday, September 14th with head trauma after being involved in a collision with a passenger vehicle.
The crash happened in the area of 2750 East and Red Cliffs Drive, across the street from the Deseret Industries Thrift Store and Donation Center.
Gold Cross Ambulance and St. George Police responded to the scene at about 5:50 p.m.
Both the motorcycle and the car were towed from the scene.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
According to data calculated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycle riders incur five timesthe risk of serious injuries than others involved in the crash.
Although only 3% of registered vehicles in Utah are motorcycles, the state’s Department of Public Safety has reported that the state witnessed a total of 273 crash fatalities in 2017, 39 of which, about 14%, were riding motorcycles.
Fatal collisions are a threat encountered by motorcycle riders far more often than the occupants of any passenger vehicle. Taking into account the fact that riders have no physical protection between their body and other vehicles or the pavement, the injuries they sustain are often severe or even fatal.
Even the most cautious of riders is at significantly higher odds of sustaining injuries during a collision when compared to those inside a truck or car.
