The collision took place at about 2:55 p.m. when a teenager driving a Ford F-150 pick-up truck blew through a red light and collided with a woman attempting to make a lefthand turn into the intersection.
The teen driver sustained minor injuries during the impact. The woman was taken by Gold Cross ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for treatment of more serious injuries.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Drivers who fail to obey traffic lights and signs are one of the primary causes of automobile accidents in the United States. A private corporation that studies collision data provided by car insurance companies noted that failing to obey is the fourth leading cause of deadly car crashes, after drunk driving, failure to maintain, and speeding.
When a driver fails to obey a roadside light, sign, or signal, it can lead to numerous types of serious collisions, such as sideswipe accidents, head-on accidents, and side-impact accidents. Failure to obey at a crosswalk places bicyclists and pedestrians, who are extremely vulnerable due to their lack of external protection, in a life-threatening situation.
