Roy, UT (October 06, 2022) – A five-year-old was taken by ambulance to McKay Dee Hospital, and from there transferred by LifeFlight to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition on Wednesday, October 5th.
According to Roy police, the child was riding his bicycle in the area of 4400 South and 2600 West when he was hit by the driver of a truck towing a trailer at about 6:00 p.m.
The driver of the truck, an adult male, remained on the scene and cooperated with investigating officers.
Bystanders reported seeing the truck driver stop at a stop sign before making a lefthand turn onto 2675 West. He reportedly saw another child on a bicycle safely cross the street. Between the driver’s elevated seat inside the full-size pickup and the small frame of the child’s balance bike, the driver was unable to see a second child in the roadway.
Police say their investigation has uncovered no evidence of impairment or speeding on the part of the truck driver.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Specifying the exact cause of an accident involving a child is often complicated. Children can be hesitant about telling an adult what happened because they are worried that they or someone else will get in trouble. In other situations, toddlers and babies may not be able to recall or have the ability to describe what happened.
While all accidents produce negative consequences for the victim, those that involve injuries to children are particularly devastating. When your child’s abilities and potential for their future are considerably impacted due to someone else’s negligence, it is hard to know what to do next.
