Vehicle collisions frequently leave victims with devastating, severe, and even potentially deadly injuries. Common kinds of injuries that are often caused by Utah car accidents include:
- Head and Back Injuries: Back injuries are a fairly standard outcome of car accidents and can bring about nerve damage, spinal cord damage, or paralysis. Collision victims may also experience tingling, pain, or numbness in their extremities for the rest of their lives.
A head injury is one of the most serious crash-related injuries. Vehicle occupants who are properly restrained could smash their heads on the dashboard, a deployed airbag, or even the steering column. The violent force of the blow can incite concussions and other, much more serious damage, synch as a traumatic brain injury. Victims could be subjected to a reduction in their cognitive capabilities, disorientation, hearing loss or damage, and loss of or damage to their vision.
- Chest and Neck Injuries: Whiplash is the most infamous and most typical vehicle accident injury. Whiplash is the result of a sudden and intense back and forth movement of the head and/or neck causing tearing and other injuries to the muscles and ligaments. Whiplash exists in varying degrees ranging from fairly inconsequential to extremely serious. In certain cases, victims encounter vocal cord paralysis after an accident.
Another common car accident injury is blunt force trauma. When exerted on the chest of a victim with a pre-existing heart condition, it can send them into cardiac arrest. Collapsed or punctured lungs, internal bleeding, broken ribs, and internal organ damage are other serious injuries that sometimes arise from serious vehicle accidents.
- Other Kinds of Injuries: Crash victims often endure injuries to their feet, hands, legs, or arms. Extremity injuries commonly include torn ligaments, like the ACL, broken or fractured bones, and even amputation and bisection. Most of these injuries will leave victims permanently handicapped and lower their quality of life.
