Salt Lake City, UT (May 03, 2022) – A man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed one woman and left her daughter critically injured.
Salt Lake City Police reported that 53-year-old Jack Archibald, a resident of West Valley City, was driving under the influence when he mowed down the mother and daughter.
At about 11:30 a.m., Archibald was driving eastbound on 1700 South when he hit the pair in the area of 900 East. According to investigators, he veered across the lanes of oncoming traffic and onto the sidewalk, where he struck the pedestrians.
23-year-old Libbie Isabel Allan died from her injuries as she was being taken to an area hospital. Her daughter, whose name and age have not been released, is hospitalized in critical condition.
Archibald fled the scene but has since been apprehended. He was charged with one count of automobile homicide, two counts of driving under the influence, and two counts of leaving the scene of a crash involving a fatality.
