One of the most frightening and most severe kinds of vehicle crashes is one that causes the vehicle to overturn. Vehicle rollover collisions are vastly different than other kinds of crashes that leave the involved vehicles sitting upright. There are numerous different factors that come into play when a rollover collision happens, all of which considerably increase the likelihood of critical injuries.
Velocity, an object’s speed in a given direction, is a major factor in a rollover crash because, regardless of the origin of the impact, it must be powerful enough to cause a vehicle to overcome the engineering protections developed by automobile manufacturers to enable the vehicle to roll.
Sometimes, this happens when another vehicle crashes into your car and the impact produces enough force to result in a rollover. Rollover collisions, however, can take place even during incidents involving a single car, where enough force or velocity is generated by the vehicle’s own weight and speed.
Gravity plays a role in all car accidents, but particularly in vehicle rollovers. Anytime an automobile overturns, the vehicle itself forms crush points, the point at which two objects meet, around the passenger side of the car. Passengers can be partially or fully thrown from the car and then crushed beneath its weight as it rolls, or strike the ground with extreme force, resulting in critical injuries. Wearing a seat belt greatly decreases the risk of being severely injured in a vehicle rollover incident.
A rolling car or truck can also pose a significant peril to others. An overturning vehicle can crash into other vehicles, pedestrians, utility poles, or structures. They can also obstruct traffic, and toss debris into other lanes of traffic. Even after it comes to an uncontrolled stop, responders near the scene could be struck by traffic attempting to dodge the wreck.
Vehicle rollover crashes can be complicated and demand the proficiency of an experienced and competent attorney with the resources to properly investigate the incident and secure fair compensation for your damages.
