Magna, UT (May 12, 2022) – A traffic control worker is currently in the hospital with critical injuries after being struck by the driver of a Ford Ranger on Monday, May 9th,
The incident took place at about 8:00 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of State Route 201 in the area of 8000 East in Magna.
A sergeant with the Utah Highway Patrol stated that the driver of the Ford lost control of the vehicle as they approached stopped traffic. This caused them to drive across the median and straight into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle then hit a traffic control worker who was arranging traffic control for some local road work.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
A pedestrian is any person walking by the side of a roadway or in a developed area. In essence, a pedestrian is anybody getting around on foot, even if they are only in a parking lot walking between their vehicle and a store. In Utah, there are many state laws and local ordinances governing when and how pedestrians are able to use the roadways and exist to keep them safe.
Even though all intersections are considered pedestrian areas, not every intersection has a marked crosswalk. Intersections are intended to be safe and suitable areas for pedestrians trying to cross the street. Busy intersections, such as those in metropolitan areas or those with above-average speed limits, are usually equipped with bridges or skyways designed for use by pedestrians and cyclists.
Anytime a pedestrian is crossing inside of a crosswalk, motorists have a duty to yield the right of way. Taking into account the tremendous difference between the weight and size of an automobile and the weight and size of a human being, automobiles are obligated to show deference under nearly all circumstances.
Given the meteoric climb in Utah’s distracted driving demographic, many drivers fail to either give any regard to pedestrian safety or observe their presence altogether. In their haste to get to work, soccer practice, or barely squeak through a traffic light, drivers normally speed through crosswalks, placing Utah’s most vulnerable roadway users, pedestrians, in peril. Pedestrians that are struck by cars typically receive critical injuries that have catastrophic, and sometimes lifelong, consequences.
Without the security of metal framing to protect them from impact or any safety features whatsoever, pedestrian injuries often bring with them serious psychological, financial, and physical fallout.
When you hire a personal injury lawyer to represent you following your pedestrian accident, your odds of receiving the maximum amount of monetary compensation are considerably higher than someone attempting to represent themselves.
A practiced attorney can tell you if your claim is being fairly handled. With years of experience on their side, you can rest assured that evidence in your favor is being gathered and a compelling legal strategy designed to help you reach your physical and financial goals is being crafted.
