Car Accidents in Utah
In 2015, 276 people were killed in car accidents in Utah; the highest fatality rate the state had seen in nearly a decade. According to an official from the Utah Highway Patrol, more than 90% of those deaths are attributable to human error.
While driving ordinances and laws in every state were created for the single purpose of preventing car accidents and the unnecessary loss of life, it is evident that not enough is being done, particularly when you acknowledge that Utah’s fatal accident rate has risen by over 25% since its record low in 2012.
While many of these deadly collisions can be blamed on an overall increase in travel, most of Utah’s fatal crashes occur because drivers refuse to pay attention to the state’s warnings about safe driving. Offenses varying from not wearing a seatbelt while the car is in motion to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, Utah residents seem resolute in going against good sense and the law.
