Automobile accidents happen every day in the state of Utah. The five most frequent causes of these collisions include:
- Distracted Drivers: Here in Utah, driving while distracted is the number one cause of vehicle collisions. Law enforcement has suggested that the problem of distracted driving is a far bigger problem than data indicates due to the fact that drivers are, understandably, reticent to confess that they weren’t paying attention to their surroundings as well as the complications that naturally come with establishing the cause of an accident. Some common examples of distracted driving are:
- Sending text messages or making telephone calls while you are behind the wheel
- Having something to eat or drink while driving
- Adjusting your vehicle’s radio or satellite navigation system
- Being exhausted
- Teenage Drivers: Statistics have revealed that adolescent drivers are far more likely to be involved in car accidents. Even though the overall total of auto accidents involving teen drivers is relatively consistent all year long, the number of deadly crashes nearly doubles from May to June.

- Speeding: Driving overly fast is a primary cause of deadly car crashes in Utah. Over 11,000 accidents caused by speeding drivers took place within the state in 2016 cutting short more than 100 lives. To make certain that you are driving your car as safely as you possibly can, always obey the posted speed limit and take don’t forget to take road and traffic conditions into consideration.
- Being Improperly Restrained: Even though it is common knowledge that seat belts save lives, many state residents just cannot be bothered. Drivers who were not wearing a seat belt when involved in an accident accounted for about 50% of all automobile fatalities during the summer of 2016. Vehicle occupants who are not buckled up are at a 25 times greater risk of dying in a crash.
- Weekend Traffic: The tremendous amount of motor vehicles on the state’s roadways contributes significantly to its high vehicle accident rate. In the summertime, Saturdays are recorded as the most dangerous day to drive, particularly between the afternoon and the early evening.
