Summit, UT (June 20, 2022) – Two 18-wheelers collided with one another on Interstate 15 in Iron County on Saturday, June 18th forcing one of the trucks off the roadway
The Utah Highway Patrol said the incident took place at about 6:00 p.m. when the first truck operator was entering I-15 by way of the Exit 71 on-ramp just outside of Summit.
That merging truck was then hit from behind by another 18-wheeler that was in the righthand lane. The truck that was cut off left the roadway and careened down a hill before it crashed and overturned.
One of the truck operators was injured during the impact. Additionally, his rig and trailer were badly damaged. Wreckers had to cut the trailer apart in order to remove it and its freight, grills, lawnmowers, fans, and shop vacs, from the roadway.
Crews spent all night clearing the cargo and removing wreckage, finishing around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Rollover accidents usually leave their victims with serious injuries, including:
- Traumatic brain injury
- Damage to the spinal cord
- Injuries to the back and neck
- Broken or fractured bones
- Death
- Paralysis
The severe nature of the above-listed injuries almost always leaves victims with expensive medical bills, an extended recovery period during which they are unable to work, and, in extreme cases, permanent disabilities that could demand a lifetime of care.
Auto manufacturers are fully aware that some of the cars and trucks they build are top-heavy, giving them a high center of gravity. This makes them prone to rolling over during accidents and certain other scenarios. In many instances, rollovers are the result of tire blowouts.
In other situations, a vehicle’s high center of gravity, a badly designed suspension system, and brakes insufficient for its size can contribute to or cause a rollover accident.
In a rollover collision, a vehicle flips over on its roof or side. Rollover accidents often take place when a driver overcorrects after dodging something in the roadway or because of a sudden, unexpected stop. Rollover accidents can also be caused by problems with the vehicle’s tires.
