Salt Lake City, UT (June 20, 2022) – A crash involving a tractor-trailer and a dump truck shut down a busy interstate off-ramp on Monday, June 20th in Salt Lake City.
The off-ramp connecting the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 to the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 was fully closed to traffic for several hours after the accident.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, those involved sustained non-critical injuries.
The area was closed until about 2:00 p.m. as crews cleaned up the asphalt spill resulting from the incident.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
When a crash caused by negligence causes damage to others, the injured party should seek out the legal guidance of a truck injury lawyer in Salt Lake City. Anytime somebody is injured by the actions of another, they are entitled to financial compensation for their damages.
In 2001, the Utah Highway Safety Office reported almost 3,000 collisions that involved commercial trucks. More than 820 of these truck accidents left victims with some degree of injury and another 36 ended with a fatality. In 2010, these totals drastically increased, with over 500,000 commercial trucking accidents taking place from January to December and leaving more than 100,000 people in critical condition and more than 5,000 dead.
During the decade ending in 2002, the number of commercial trucks involved in fatal crashes rose by 10%; an increase due mostly to avoidable situations such as being too fatigued to drive, operating a truck in an unsafe manner, unbalanced or oversized freight, and defective parts. Accidents that involve large trucks are also vulnerable to the same factors as other accidents, including drivers under the influence, drowsy driving, driver error, equipment failure, and improper maintenance.
After a collision with a commercial truck, many victims must endure a long and painful recovery. This could include strict and difficult physical therapy as well as various surgeries and medical treatments. All of this will lead to an ever-growing pile of medical bills combined with various other associated losses such as missing wages caused by being physically unable to return to work.
Regrettably, many truck accident victims are panicked and consent to the very first settlement offered to them without giving any consideration to the trajectory of potential future medical costs and often without the full extent of their injuries having been diagnosed. Making this mistake will force them to cover the significant remaining costs.
The legal representation of a skilled Utah commercial truck accident lawyer who knows how to calculate the expenses you could be facing in the months to come is your best shot at obtaining the financial compensation you deserve.
