Promontory, UT (June 21, 2022) – Box Elder County officials are investigating the cause of two separate rollover accidents in off-road vehicles that caused the death of one seasonal weed control worker and the serious injury of another on Tuesday, June 21st.
Based on initial police inquiries, authorities determined that both rollovers occurred while the workers were “operating UTVs in the course of their work.”
The accidents took place at a worksite just outside of Promontory when the Weed Control Department was spraying harmful weeds in unobstructed areas.
In the first incident, one worker sustained a severe but unspecified injury. The victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition.
The second accident happened instantly after the first. That victim was pronounced at the scene.
The county is cooperating with the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division and Utah State Parks as the agencies conduct an investigation.
The name of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
When someone is injured or killed in an accident through no fault of their own, they are typically able to seek financial recovery from the negligent party to mitigate the financial burdens they now face for medical treatment, lost income, property repairs, and many other economic and non-economic damages.
The primary advantage of a personal injury suit is that it enables victims or their surviving family members to collect compensation for pain and suffering, a benefit that is unavailable in a worker’s compensation claim.
With a personal injury claim, victims can pursue damages for things such as lost wages, decreased earning capacity, medical bills, future medical bills, lifelong handicaps, pain and suffering, and diminished quality of life.
The benefits available through worker’s compensation, which, at its essence, is nothing more than an agreement between business owners and their labor force, are extremely limited.
