Motor vehicle crashes commonly leave their victims with severe, debilitating, and even potentially fatal injuries. The most common types of injuries that are often the result of a Utah car accident include things such as:
- Injuries to the Neck and Chest: Whiplash is the most notorious and most common vehicle crash injury. Whiplash is caused by the sudden and extreme back and forth motion of the neck and/or head, causing tearing, straining, and other injuries to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles.
The severity of a whiplash injury can vary wildly from relatively trivial to quite extreme. In some cases, victims undergo vocal cord paralysis following an incident.
A collapsed or punctured lung, severe internal bleeding, cracked ribs, and damage to internal organs are a few other serious injuries that can sometimes be caused by vehicle collisions.
- Injuries to the Head and Back: Back injuries are a relatively normal byproduct of auto collisions and can vary from spinal cord damage and nerve damage to paralysis and death. Crash victims might also encounter numbness, tingling, or pain in their hands, legs, feet, and arms for the remainder of their lives.
A head injury is one of the more critical collision-related injuries. Vehicle occupants, even ones who are wearing their seat belts properly, can smack their heads on the dashboard or the steering column, or be hit in the face with an airbag as it deploys.
The extreme force of the blast can cause whiplash, concussions, and other, far more serious damage, such as traumatic brain injury. Victims might be subjected to a decrease in their cognitive abilities, disorientation, h loss of or damage to their vision, and loss of or damage to their hearing.
