Motor vehicle crashes commonly leave their victims with severe, debilitating, and even potentially fatal injuries. The most common types of injuries that are often the result of a Utah car accident include things such as:
- Injuries to the Neck and Chest: Punctured or collapsed lungs, internal bleeding, broken ribs, internal bleeding, and internal organ damage are just some of the serious injuries that can be caused by vehicle accidents.
Whiplash is the most common crash injury. Whiplash is caused by the sudden and extreme back and forth motion of the neck and/or head, causing tearing, straining, and other injuries to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The seriousness of a whiplash injury can vary wildly from relatively trivial to quite extreme. In some cases, victims undergo vocal cord paralysis following an incident.
- Injuries to the Head and Back: Back injuries are another very common outcome of auto crashes and can vary from spinal cord damage and nerve damage to paralysis and fatalities. Crash victims might also encounter numbness, tingling, or pain in their hands, legs, feet, and arms for the remainder of their lives.
A head injury is one of the more critical collision-related injuries. Vehicle occupants, even ones who are wearing their seat belts properly, can smack their heads on the dashboard or the steering column, or be bashed in the face with an airbag as it deploys.
