Salt Lake City, UT (August 03, 2022) – Salt Lake City police were dispatched to a serious crash between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on Tuesday, August 3rd.
The crash occurred in the area of Cleveland Avenue and Main Street, in the Ballpark neighborhood, at about 10:00 p.m.
According to sources, a Salt Lake Bees game had just finished up and the area was heavily congested.
The rider was transported in critical condition.
The cause of the collision has not yet been determined.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Fatal collisions are a threat encountered by motorcycle riders far more often than the occupants of any passenger vehicle. Taking into account the fact that riders have no physical protection between their body and other vehicles or the pavement, the injuries they sustain are often severe or even fatal.
Even the most cautious of riders is at significantly higher odds of sustaining injuries during a collision when compared to those inside a truck or car.
Although only 3% of registered vehicles in Utah are motorcycles, the state’s Department of Public Safety has reported that the state witnessed a total of 273 crash fatalities in 2017, 39 of which, about 14%, were riding motorcycles.
According to data calculated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcycle riders incur five timesthe risk of serious injuries than others involved in the crash.
