Goshen, UT (August 26, 2022) – A bus driver for the Nebo School District and a child were transported in moderate condition after the school bus crashed while taking roughly 45 students to school on Friday, August 26th.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, the bus was the only vehicle involved in the crash and only one of the 45 students on board was injured.
The bus was heading eastbound on US-6 near Goshen at about 7:40 a.m. when it veered off the righthand shoulder. The driver then overcorrected, causing the bus to leave the opposite side of the roadway and crash through a fence before coming to stop in a nearby field.
DPS did not divulge what caused the bus to drift.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
School buses are a necessary mode of daily transportation for many children across the United States, but the accidents in which they are involved put an average of 17,000 children in the emergency room every year. An estimated 19 children are killed yearly during school bus-related accidents.
Distracted driving is a common cause of school bus accidents nationwide. Police have said that the problem of distracted driving is much more widespread than records show because drivers don’t often admit they were not paying attention.
