Motor vehicle crashes commonly leave their victims with severe, debilitating, and even potentially fatal injuries. Severe internal bleeding, collapsed or punctured lungs, internal bleeding, broken ribs, and internal bleeding are just some of the severe injuries that can result from serious car accidents.
However, the most frequent kinds of injuries that stem from Utah car crashes include:
- Injuries to the Neck and Chest: Whiplash is the most common crash injury. It is caused by the sudden and extreme back and forth motion of the neck and/or head, causing tearing, straining, and other injuries to the ligaments, tendons, and muscles. The seriousness of a whiplash injury can range from relatively trivial to quite extreme. In some cases, victims experience vocal cord paralysis following an incident.
- Injuries to the Head and Back: Back injuries are a fairly typical byproduct of auto collisions and can vary from nerve damage and spinal cord damage to paralysis and death. Collision victims may also encounter pain, numbness, or tingling in their extremities for the rest of their lives.
A head injury is one of the more critical collision-related injuries. Vehicle occupants, even ones who are wearing their seat belts properly, can smack their heads on the dashboard or the steering column, or be struck in the face with an airbag as it deploys.
