St. George, UT (September 13, 2021) – A motorcycle rider was killed during a collision with another vehicle in southern Utah on Sunday, September 12th.
An official with the St. George Police Department said that the accident took place at about 7:30 p.m. on 3050 East when the unidentified biker was riding southbound when a northbound car made a lefthand turn into a parking lot directly in front of the biker.
The motorcyclist tried to stop but collided with the passenger side of the car.
Authorities found the rider unconscious and not breathing. They performed CPR until he was loaded into an ambulance and transported to a local hospital.
Upon his arrival, the victim, a man in his 40s, died due to the severity of his injuries.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The setting sun is believed to be a factor in this accident.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Motorcycle Fatalities in St. George
Personal injury is a regular occurrence following motorcycle accidents. Victims often need emergency medical care and multiple surgeries. As a result, injured riders may be forced to take time away from work and endure a major loss of income during their convalescence.
Critical injuries, like those that affect the spinal cord or brain, and even deaths can be caused by a motorcycle accident. This is particularly true if another vehicle was involved. This is due to the fact that motorcycles do not offer their operators any of the safety features that are provided to the occupants of passenger vehicles. These features include seat belts, roll cages, and airbags. Their absence leaves riders vulnerable to serious internal injuries as well.
Data drawn from a statistical analysis shows that Utah saw 1,734 significant motorcycle accidents in 2014. These accidents caused 1,979 victims to be seriously injured. In that same year, 86 motorcycle-involved accidents took place during which 88 people died.
