Salt Lake City, UT (September 20, 2021) – A driver suspected of hitting two children crossing a road in Salt Lake City on Monday, September 20th might have been impaired.
Sources reported that at about 8:00 a.m., Salt Lake City Police responded to the scene of a pedestrian-involved accident near the intersection of 400 South and 1040 West. Upon their arrival, officers located two children who had been hit by a car.
Both children received medical treatment on the scene before being transported in critical condition to a local hospital. The severity of the accident prompted authorities to engage the department’s Crime Lab technicians and Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.
An investigation determined that the driver of a Jeep Grand Cherokee heading eastbound on 400 South when they struck the children, who were crossing Goshen Street.
Officers said the driver of the Jeep stayed at the scene and has cooperated with their investigation, which is being treated as a possible impaired driver crash.
Although the scene has been cleared, the investigation is still active. No arrests have been made at this time.
