Park City, UT (September 21, 2021) – A collision involving three vehicles at the intersection of Snow Creek Drive and Kearns Boulevard on Monday, September 20th resulted in the hospitalization of a 69-year-old woman from Park City.
The accident took place at about 2:30 p.m. just as schools were letting out.
Officers from the Park City Police Department said that a silver Subaru was driving westbound along Kearns Boulevard in the direction of Snow Creek Drive when it struck a yellow Nissan in the intersection. The impact hurled the Nissan into a grey Dodge that had been driving in the opposite direction but was stopped at the intersection.
A Battalion Chief for Park City Fire District said that an adult female victim was trapped inside the Nissan. She was extricated from the opposite side of the vehicle with the jaws of life. Emergency crews removed a car door to free her.
Sources reported that all of her airbags were deployed and she was properly restrained at the time of the crash.
Her current condition was not made immediately available.
The other drivers involved were a 26-year-old man from Virginia Beach and a 15-year-old girl from Park City, who was issued traffic citations.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Intersection Accidents in Park City
In 2016, there were 78 fatal intersection accidents in Utah accounting for almost 20% of all fatal car accidents that year.
Some of the more frequent causes of intersection car accidents include;
- Running Stop Signs and Red Lights: When drivers disregard red lights or ignore stop signs, they increase their odds of colliding with another vehicle.
- Distracted Driving: Texting while you are behind the wheel, rubbernecking, and other forms of distraction by drivers increases the risk of an accident.
- Ignoring Illegal Turn Signs: When righthand or lefthand turns are not allowed, it is usually to lower the chances of an intersection accident as well as traffic congestion. Making illegal turns because they are convenient put you and other drivers at risk.
- Failing to Use Your Turn Indicators: If other drivers don’t know that you are about to make a turn, the possibility of an accident increases. You should always use your turn indicators if you are merging or changing lanes.
- Driving Under the Influence: Drinking and driving while intoxicated reduces your hand-eye coordination, impairs your decision-making ability, and will almost certainly end in disaster.
Insurance companies don’t force you to hire an attorney before you can file a claim, but having a legal advocate who is committed to your case and understands the ins and outs of the claims system can help you see the maximum amount of financial compensation. If you were injured in a Utah car accident, you should contact a personal injury lawyer for immediate assistance.
