Box Elder Co, UT (September 23, 2021) – A driver died and another person was injured at about 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23rd after an attempt to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone caused a collision with a third vehicle.
A source inside the Utah Highway Patrol said that the driver of a 1993 Honda Accord was driving westbound along State Route 30 near mile marker 30 when it tried to pass the car in front of it.
The driver was allegedly passing the first vehicle at a high rate of speed in a no-passing zone.
An eyewitness indicated that, in its attempt to pass, the Honda went around another car and then lost control, swerving into oncoming traffic. As it sat sideways in traffic, it was struck by an eastbound White 2000 Ford Crown Victoria.
The driver of the Honda was fatally injured and died at the scene.
The occupants of the Ford were transported by ambulance to an area hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
Lane closures were in effect for nearly three hours due to police investigation and road cleanup.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification.
