Train Accidents in Utah
The United States is home to approximately 600 train systems that run across hundreds of thousands of miles of railroad tracks and cross more than 209,000 railroad crossings. Each year, an average of 1,000 pedestrians are killed during train-related accidents, and about half of those fatal accidents take place at train crossings that are totally unmarked.
Train accidents are commonly caused by basic negligence on the part of a railway company, involving things like worsening track conditions that go unattended to, tools or equipment being left on the tracks, traveling at hazardous speeds around sharp bends in the track, or engineers who are fatigued or even distracted while they are operating a train.
These kinds of negligence often have disastrous outcomes for the crew and/or passengers who are working on or riding the train.
