DUI Accidents in Utah
In 2018 and 2019, the rate of arrests for drunk drivers fell by 4%. Most of these drivers were arrested in Davis, Utah, Weber, and Salt Lake counties, making up 70% of Utah’s DUI arrests. Every remaining county outside of Wasatch Front combined made up only 30% of the state’s DUI accidents, a total that is disproportionate to the region’s population.
No different than other types of car crashes, liability on the part of the intoxicated driver has to be established in order for you to recover compensation for your losses. Losses in a DUI claim include both economic and non-economic. In a very small number of cases, punitive damages can also be pursued due to the driver exhibiting gross negligence in their decision to drive drunk.
