In Utah, pedestrians are afforded the right-of-way in both unmarked and marked crosswalks. They are also permitted to cross the street from any point except where it is explicitly forbidden. In the event that a pedestrian crosses a street where no crosswalk is present. they are statutorily obligated to give the right-of-way to oncoming vehicles.
The impacts of fatal pedestrian crashes throughout our state are something that most families are not prepared to deal with. The mental and emotional pain and suffering are only half of the battle. In many cases, families are deprived of sources of income they have grown to depend on. Additionally, they are often left with towering medical bills and funeral costs.
