Wasatch Co, UT (June 08, 2021) – Three people died during a chain-reaction accident on US-189 on Monday, June 7th in Wasatch County.
The crash occurred at about 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of 3000 South in the area of the Heber Valley Airport in Charleston.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the Utah Highway Patrol indicates that a Jeep was driving along the highway when, for reasons that have yet to be determined, it slowed down and was rear-ended by a pick-up truck.
The force of the impact caused the Jeep to go on fire which, in turn, caused it to swerve into the opposite lanes of traffic where it was T-boned by a Trailblazer SUV. I
Both vehicles went up in flames killing the occupants of both vehicles.
At this point, it appears that two people were in the Trailblazer and one person was in the Jeep, none of whom has been identified.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
The front end of one vehicle crashing into the side of another vehicle, usually at a 90-degree angle, is referred to as a broadside, T-bone, or side-impact collision. An estimated 10,000 people lose their lives every year in the United States during side-impact crashes, accounting for about 25 of all crash fatalities in an average year. In addition to these deaths, several thousand victims sustain serious injuries during this type of car accident.
