St. George, UT (June 08, 2021) – Police responded to the scene when a teenage girl driving with a baby on her lap caused a car accident on Monday, June 7th in St. George.
A local news source reported that the crash occurred at about 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Red Hills Parkway and 1000 East when an 18-year-old female driving northbound in a Mazda 3 with an unrestrained baby on her lap crashed into a Chevy Traverse driven by a middle-aged woman.
The 18-year-old told paramedics she might be pregnant and was taken to the hospital complaining of abdominal pain.
Due to the airbag not deploying, the baby sustained only non-critical injuries. The child was taken to a local hospital and eventually released into the care of a relative.
The driver of the other car was transported after sustaining non-critical facial trauma and lacerations.
The teenager was issued citations for not having proof of insurance, failing to obey the traffic signal, having an unrestrained child in the vehicle, and having never obtained a driver’s license.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
