Kanosh, UT (July 30, 2021) – Officers with the Kanosh Police Department and Utah Highway Patrol troopers have released further details after a deadly accident occurred during a sandstorm on Sunday afternoon, July 25.
Authorities say that at least eight people were killed and ten were injured after the 20-vehicle accident occurred. The vehicles collided on Interstate 15, just outside of the town of Kanosh. Ground and air EMS were used to transport crash victims to local hospitals, where some are still listed in critical condition.
Five of the eight people killed were traveling in one car, and two of the deceased victims were traveling in another vehicle. There are multiple children among the deceased, according to a statement released by Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Rhoden.
Rhoden said that several vehicles tried to swerve to avoid the wreck, causing at least one to roll.
Highway I-15 remained shut down into the late evening as police conducted the on-scene portion of their investigation.
The investigation is still ongoing, however, and further details have not been released.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families of the deceased victims. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Car wrecks are the leading cause of accidental deaths nationwide. These collisions are also a significant source of serious and catastrophic injuries to more than two million crash victims every year.
When injuries result from auto crashes due to the recklessness of other motorists, victims need legal advice from a reputable car accident attorney in Salt Lake City. Anytime someone is harmed due to another driver’s negligence, they are legally permitted to collect financial remuneration from the liable party in order to reduce the economic hardships brought on by hospital bills, lost wages, property damage, and many other losses.
In any given year, the state of Utah generally sees about 50,000 car accidents. From this total number of incidents, nearly 25,000 cause their victims to experience some form of injury or even death. When victims succumb to their injuries as a result of these accidents, those left behind may be forced to pick up the pieces, all while grieving their loved one’s death.
Unfortunately, victims and their families pay the price after these unfortunate incidents. Whether they’re dealing with exorbitant medical costs that come with their convalescence or are attempting to negotiate with insurance companies, victims and affected families can be put in tough situations, often with frustrating results, as a result of a wreck that’s occurred through no fault of their own.
