More than 180 Utah snowmobile accidents were reported in the winter of 2016-2017. These accidents involved 225 snowmobile operators, left 127 victims seriously injured and resulted in the deaths of 24. Dangerously high speeds have routinely been the leading cause behind these accidents.
Officials have reported that, as far as OHVs such as snowmobiles are concerned, speeding does not necessarily imply that a posted speed limit was exceeded, but rather that the operator of an OHV was driving at a speed that was too high for prevailing trail or road conditions. Driver inexperience was also a major contributing factor.
