West Valley City, UT (August 19, 2021) – Four victims sustained injuries during a wrong-way collision on Wednesday, August 18th in West Valley City.
The Utah Highway Patrol dispatch began receiving calls at about 11:40 p.m. notifying them of a minivan driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of State Route 201.
As troopers were preparing to intercept the driver, they received reports of a crash on SR-201 at the top of the Mountain View Corridor off-ramp in the area of 6200 West when the minivan crashed head-on into a silver passenger vehicle.
The collision caused a black pick-up truck to sideswipe the silver car.
The driver and passenger of the silver vehicle had to be extricated, as did the driver of the minivan. All three were transported by Emergency Medical Services to local hospitals with injuries ranging from serious to critical.
The driver of the black pick-up truck was also taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
The eastbound lanes of SR-201 were closed at 7200 West for nearly four hours for investigation and clean-up.
UHP has stated that the driver of the minivan is suspected of impairment.
This accident is under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
Similar to other kinds of car crashes, liability on the part of the intoxicated driver has to be proven in order for you to receive financial compensation for your losses. Losses in a DUI claim include both economic and non-economic. In very special circumstances, punitive damages may also be sought because the driver showed gross negligence in their decision to drive drunk.
When injuries are sustained during a crash due to another party’s negligence, victims should immediately seek legal guidance from an accident attorney in West Valley City. Anytime somebody is harmed and another person was the cause of that harm, they are able to receive financial compensation for their damages and losses.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that one person was killed by a drunk driver every 48 minutes in 2017, indicating 10,874 people died in alcohol-related car accidents that year, representing 29% of all traffic fatalities in the United States. These numbers were nearly identical to 2016’s totals, which had not been that low since 1985.

In 2018 and 2019, the rate of arrests for drunk and drugged drivers fell by 4%. The largest percentage of these drivers were arrested in Davis, Salt Lake, Weber, and Utah counties, making up 70% of the state’s drunk driving arrests. Every remaining county outside of Wasatch Front added together comprised just 30% of Utah’s drunk driving crashes, a figure that is disproportionate to the region’s population.
