Smithfield, UT (August 23, 2021) – Further details have been released following a collision between a tractor-trailer and a school bus that occurred on Friday afternoon, August 20.
The Smithfield school bus accident took place at the intersection of Main Street and 100 North around 1:45 p.m. in the Smithfield area. The bus driver and roughly two dozen high schoolers aboard sustained only minor injuries, though a 14-year-old boy was hospitalized as a precaution.
The truck’s cab crushed a front corner of the bus, said Cache County School District spokesman Tim Smith. News footage from the site of the crash shows the bus with a bent side and top, with its door and windshield dislodged.
The students were traveling from Green Canyon High School to Newton, Smith said. Both drivers were cooperating with troopers, and specific information surrounding the events leading up to the wreck was not provided.
The accident is still under investigation at this time.
