American Fork, UT (August 24, 2021) – Officials have identified a semi-truck driver who died in a tractor-trailer accident on I-15 on Monday afternoon, August 23, in northern Utah County.
The victim is 75-year-old Gary Hubbard, according to a statement from Utah Highway Patrol. A previous statement from UHP said that around 2:30 p.m., a dump-style semi and pup trailer was traveling southbound on Interstate 15 in the American Fork area.
The left front steer tire blew, causing Hubbard to swerve left across the three lanes and crash into the center concrete median barrier. Hubbard was then ejected and pulled underneath the semi as it continued south along the HOV and left the emergency lane.
Despite life-saving measures administered by paramedics, Hubbard was declared deceased at the scene. It’s unclear why the tire blew, or if any other vehicles were involved in the wreck
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being handled by local law enforcement officials, and further details surrounding the circumstances of the wreck were not provided.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of Gary Hubbard.
Deadly Truck Accidents in Utah
When it comes to freight delivery in the United States, commercial trucks are king, and these massive vehicles may represent a significant threat to passengers in passenger automobiles. When a car accident occurs, occupants in smaller cars are more likely to have life-threatening injuries, as evidenced by national accident data on the subject.
Trucking accidents are recorded in excess of 500,000 times every year, resulting in thousands of fatalities. A tractor-trailer or semi-truck collision results in the death or serious injury of someone around every 15 seconds.
In the case of a collision with a passenger car, large semi-trucks can cause severe and life-threatening injuries. Driver inexperience is a significant cause of fatal commercial vehicle accidents, which occurs when firms scramble to fill jobs owing to a scarcity of qualified drivers.
This carelessness adds to catastrophic incidents involving 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles. When a trucking accident occurs as a consequence of the negligence of another driver, affected victims should speak with an American Fork truck accident attorney in order to recover lost compensation via the filing of a personal injury claim.
