Washington City, UT (October 10, 2021) – On Friday, October 8th, at about 6:30 p.m., multiple agencies responded to reports of a two-car accident on the off-ramp leading from Interstate 15 to Washington Boulevard.
The Utah Highway Patrol, Washington City Police, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office each had officers respond, along with the Washington City Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance.
Upon their arrival, officers located a gray Nissan that had veered off the righthand shoulder of the roadway by the ramp for northbound I-15. The second vehicle, a black Chrysler, had also swerved off the shoulder and skidded down the embankment by the interchange.
An investigation confirmed that the crash occurred when the 34-year-old driver of the Chrysler left the northbound off-ramp of I-15 and failed to stop at a stop sign. The driver then entered Washington Parkway where he struck the Nissan which had been stopped in the intersection as the driver, a 20-year-old woman, was waiting to turn onto the interstate.
The accident is being investigated as a possible DUI as the driver of the Chrysler is thought to have been under the influence of alcohol.
Both drivers were transported by ambulance to St. George Regional Hospital for medical aid.
The driver of the Chrysler was released into police custody.
